NASDAQ Computer Breach Effect Spreading

Last week a set of computer hackers tapped into the NASDAQ system and caused a wide spread panic. The idea that anyone could gain access to the financial information contained within the NASDAQ system was stunning to many and downright scary to many others. But the system told reporters today that the hackers did not gain access to the trading platform but rather to the outside business aspects, making the hack a worst case scenario for many companies.

The main access that was finally uncovered had to do with the plans that are filed within the NASDAQ system that will affect trading by many companies from around the US. They generally log these different plans into the system and then allow them to sit there until it is time to unveil them. However, the hackers managed to gain access, giving way to the fact that they will now have the information from the different business ventures in the US.

NASDAQ has said that they are still looking into the matter and trying to uncover how the hackers gained entry. NASDAQ uses an outside security company to handle all computer access and system upgrades and as such that company is now on the hook for the breach. They said that they had no idea how the hackers managed to get through and it was several hours before the breach was even noticed.

At this point the companies that had plans on file within the NASDAQ system have been warned of the breach and the possible repercussions that come with it. Many have threatened to sue the trading platform as well as the security company that allowed for the breach to happen.

The FBI has been called in to investigate the matter at this time but thus far they have no leads.
